Rhinoplasty: Cosmetic Nose Surgery for Men

Rhinoplasty

Looking back decades ago, cosmetic/plastic surgery is only reserved for women’s need and vanity.  But as time goes by, men have adapted the procedures for appearance enhancement in order to build confidence and prestige. Cultures may have played important role in the acceptance on the essence of true beauty. We cannot blame most of the people because there are some who are really exceptionally beautiful (physically). We can’t help it but Wows in admiration for the gift of beauty that bestowed to them.  Anyways, beauty is still on the eyes of the beholders.

Usually, guys who have pointed nose are considered handsome than those have mediocre or flat nose.  We can’t change that mentality in a snap of our finger.  However, with the present evolving technology, choices are given for you to look good. All the preference are present, the decisions are all yours.

Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty has been introduced decades back. More technology and innovation on the procedure has been discovered.  Risk is less perhaps because of these surgical improvements.  All you have to do is to evaluation well for the pros and cons it may cause you.  This is the reason why it pays to fully know the procedure of Rhinoplasty Nose Surgery.  How long would take time to perform the procedure and how long could you recover there after. Any side effects and if they are, what and how risky? And most importantly, how much would be the cost involved in this procedure? If it’s within your budget, then why not undergo.  Finally, why should you go through the procedure? Whether for reasons of need or want, there are so many men now opting to undergo this cosmetic procedure.

Why consultation is needed for cosmetic surgery?

In any course of action, initial consultation and discussion is a must.  It is where the every detail is discussed and every aspect will be take cared of.

Why you want undergo the surgery? After that, part or aspect of your nose shall be done and what outcome are you expecting. Since this involves health and safety, the medical history of the patient shall be gathered. Is there any previous medical records, heart and blood related problems, allergies, and the like.  This is to make sure that the patient is really qualified and fit to undergo the procedure. The surgeon will then present to the patient the details of the procedure and how it will be done.  Through the aid of drawings and new technologies using computed imaging programs, the surgeon can demonstrate it well and in return the patient can visualize the whole process.

What is the age range for cosmetic surgery?

Fifteen (15) years old is the minimum required age for rhinoplasty / nose surgery. In females, it is younger, 13 years old. This is so because male body organs mature longer and never stop until they are older. As we have noticed, the age range (13-15) is young and critical. The outlook of the teenagers about beauty / physical appearance is bit shallow and sensitive, than that of the matured people. That’s why a thorough evaluation and surgical assessment must be given attention. There are instances that cosmetic procedure is not necessary (need over obsession).

How must is the cost involved in Rhinoplasty?

The Rhinoplasty procedure is quite expensive especially for average income earners.  The cost is more or less $4000 up to $7000, depending on the package you availed if it includes the anesthesia, hospital accommodation and other facilities. This is so because most nose jobs are not covered by health insurance.  Variation on the cost of the procedure depends on many factors such as but not limited to: the complexity of the surgery, the status of the surgeons (services of famous medical professions may command higher price), location (more practitioners’ means competitive prices).

 How Rhinoplasty Procedure is done?

Either a General anesthesia or a local anesthesia is given to patient for Rhinoplasty. If sometimes differs depending on the patient’s preference and the complexity of the surgery itself.
The types of Rhinoplasty are:
  • Open Technique = this involves making incision across the skin between the nostrils. The internal structures of the nose can easily be worked on this technique. The swelling after the surgery will take a bit of time to subside.
  • Close Technique = this doesn’t require an incision on the outer tissues of the nose. The healing on this technique is quicker because the tissues are less disrupted.
Rhinoplasty aim to minimize scaring from the incisions done outside the nose that is why often times the cut is made inside the rim of the nostrils, the soft tissue are separated from the underlying structure. The cartilage and bone of the nose are then reshaped to get the visualized cosmetic results. The nostrils can be widened or narrowed according to need.

Operation Time for Rhinoplasty

The procedure is usually performed on an out-patient basis. The surgery is done on span of time of one up to two hours.

Post Operative Care for Rhinoplasty

The post surgery effect is not painful and if there’s any it very minimal. Discomfort may arise but it is controllable by mild analgesics. If there is external incision done, the nostrils stitches shall be removed between 3-5 days.

The swelling will gradually subside after several weeks. The swelling around the eyes can be reduced through cold compress. Recovery and healing depends on the individual ability of the patient but usually the nose will be healed within a few weeks. Numbness can be felt especially on the extensive surgeries. The nose will be sensitive so it is recommended to us sunscreen. The patient can go back to light work after a couple of days depending on the appearance.

Is there any Complications on Rhinoplasty

Unexpected health problems may arise after the operation especially on general anesthetic.  It may be serious or benign. Some of the manifestations are: infection, scarring, numbness and unhappiness for unsatisfactory final result.

Most importantly good screening, qualified professional plastic surgeon performing the procedure, good facilities can minimize the risks in undergoing cosmetic or plastic surgery.
